Writing using our senses

"We talked about being at the beach. I can use my ears and eyes to help me write interesting words." said Skyla.

"Today I used Miss Lal's laptop to play a word game. I can sound out 3 letter words by putting letters in the right order." said Skyla.

We are learning to read o'clock time

"I can read 10 o'clock on the clock and find a matching card. Some numbers are tricky." said Skyla. 

Art Exhibition 2017 - Winter Trees

Our artwork is inspired by the Waiting Tree in the Junior playground. We all play around this tree. This art is a combination of paint, pastel and collage.

"The best part was when I got to sketch the tree and paint the background." said Skyla.

We are learning to make a photo box

Thursday 24th August was such a special day! Mrs Ludlam came over from Bunnings Botany and helped us make key holders and photo boxes. We had teachers and some helpers who helped us use screws, little hammers, glue and nails. Then we got to decorate it with pebbles, shells and paint.

"It was tricky putting the sides together but I had fun." said Skyla.

We are learning to count on from the largest number

We are learning to use base words to help me read

When I am reading, I look carefully through words and notice how they end. By doing this, I can find the base word.

We are learning to sequence our ideas

In class, we were talking about our morning and afternoon routines at home. I wrote a story about what I do in my day, from when I wake up to when I go to sleep in the night.

We are learning how to look after our school

Today we were in buddies and we picked up rubbish around the school. We had gloves, tongs and buckets to help us. Then, we used hand sanitiser to clean our hands when we got back to class. 

We are learning to write the number before and after a number (1-20)

"Number 15 comes before 16. Number 17 comes after." said Skyla.

We are learning to know different punctuation

I can point to and explain capital letters, letters, full stops and question marks. Here I am reading a book called Going to the Moon.

"I know a question ends with a question mark." said Skyla.

We are learning how to read back our writing

After writing time, we sit in a sharing circle. Here I am sharing my story with Elenoa.

"My story is I like to eat chocolate. I love eating chocolate. I can point to the words when I read my writing to her." said Skyla.

We are learning to write our high frequency words

As part of our reading tumble, we write our word of the week on our whiteboards. Here I am practising the word 'in' on my whiteboard.

"I can write the word "in" by myself" said Skyla. 

We are learning to count forwards from any number up to 20

We are learning to recognise numbers between 1 to 20.
We are learning to order numbers between 1 to 20.

"I know that number 12 comes after number 11" said Skyla.
